Fifth goal in five consecutive matches, and goal number 167 for Roby Baggio in Serie A, which let him catch up with Argentine striker Batistuta. As reported in Datasport, Roby said "my current objective is the salvation, I will think about playing in the World Cup later. To catch up with Bati is a great satisfaction, but above all it is beautiful to give points to Brescia. I always want to score. I would think in the way that I had earn three points for us, but not that I had crashed Inter. We prepared well for the match, we were very concentrated. I will continue to play at my best"

As reported in Sportal, after the match against Reggina, Roby said "today we have played a great match, all of us have given out our maximum. Although some players are not available, those who played have shown that they are important to the squad. Until today we have had an unfavourable calendar, much difficult ones. Now it's time for us to give out our capacity, we will have to be good to survive. If we keep this we will do the salvation without problems."

As reported in Calciomercato, Brescia defender Petruzzi thanked Roby for his assist on his first ever Serie A goal, he said "it's really an important win for us, I dedicate my goal to my wife and my children. A special thanks to Roberto Baggio, his assist was perfect." Also coach Mazzone said "personally I have a great relationship with him (Roby). It s a nice surprise. Usually champions are snob, but he is not. He humbly adapt himself to a small team like Brescia."

RAI gave Roby 8 points for his performance in this match. Here is the match highlight in Real format.

Giornale di Brescia picture
BresciaOggi reported the feeling of coach Mazzone, Fiorentina coach Roberto Mancini and La Gazzetta dello Sport assistant manager Franco Arturi about Roby's goal. Firstly Mazzone said "only Roby could take down the ball that way." Then Mancini said "Baggio made an extraordinary one." Finally Arturi said "it was a piece of divine soccer, it was extraordinary that it will be remembered and talked about for decades."

On the other hand, almost all the Italian press said that Roby's goal helped Roma, rather than saying that it helped Brescia. After all they only care about the title race between the teams at the top of the league table, but not the battle between those further down the ladder.

Some more comment from Roby about the match against Juventus as reported in Giornale di Brescia. Firstly he talked about his goal, he said "I was fortunate to have stopped the ball, at the time when you were watching the ball and the keeper you lose yourself."

Roby didn't play well in the first half of the match, while his performance improved in the second half, Roby explained and said "the fact is that we must keep the ball and plan, in this way we can do important things. When we do not think and just throw the ball up front, we won't get any good from it. In the first half I was marked tightly by Tacchinardi, I played more as a midfielder." Roby also said that many players in Juventus went to play for their national teams over the week also weaken their stamina yesterday.

Then Roby said that scoring a goal at the Delle Alpi Stadium gave him a special feeling, but for him Brescia's salvation was the only thing in his mind. In his first seasons with Fiorentina he also had to face the salvation of the team, which was successful only in the final days, but Roby said that soccer had been different between now and the past. On the other hand, he believed that after earning a point from Juventus the team would be able to work calmly, which was very helpful for the salvation.

Here are three more pictures of Roby in the match against Juventus, source is Gironale di Brescia.

Here are some more words from Roby after the match against Juventus. Roby said "this point is very good for the salvation. The goal was a beautiful one, I had nothing in my mind except from getting the ball and going around the keeper. It does not matter whom I score against, Juve or other is the same." (KataWeb)

While about salvation, Roby said "at the season end this will be a useless goal if we will not stay in Serie A." (Il Nuovo) Also he said "it is not going to be easy to avoid relegation but we will try to achieve our goal. Next match against Reggina is going to be tough, we will have to be careful of Taibi as well. We have played against important teams so far, now we have to win against the teams that are having the same objective as Brescia." (Calciomercato)

About the Serie A title race, Roby said "we do not give the title to Roma yet, the margin (between Roma and Juventus) is still recoverable." (Il Nuovo)

About the national team, Roby said "I hope to get into the national team, this hope dies last, but it does not count on hope." (KataWeb) While national team coach Trapattoni still has not ruled out Baggio's chance to be back to the Azzurri, the coach said "I already knew the player candidated himself for a place. I've always had a great regard on him already when Juventus signed him, but I have to consider everybody. Anyway everything can happen, we will value this at the right moment." (Calciomercato)

Brescia with Baggio never gave Juventus any advantage, they first eliminated the Turin team in Coppa Italia, then they diminished Juventus' hope for the scudetto on April Fool's Day. As reported in Datasport, after the end of the match, Roby said "we have earned an important point, in Coppa Italia and in Serie A we gave Juve two bad jokes, but I concern more about the point for Brescia, soon the fight for salvation will arrive and the end of April will tell us how we are doing."

RAI gave Roby 6.5 for his performance, and Roby's goal was absolutely first class, Pirlo's 30-metre long ball was accurate, then Roby controlled the ball brilliantly and went pass goalkeeper Van Der Sar to put the ball into the empty net.
