As reported in BresciaOggi, with the help of Giuseppe Parlamenti, craftsman of Ascoli Piceno, Roby will write the names of his children, Valentina and Mattia, onto his pair of all-black footwear. This is a great way to show how much he loves his children.

On the other hand, yesterday Brescia beat Alto Adige 8-0 in a friendly, coach Mazzone used 3-5-2 in the first half, with Roby and Toni partnering up front. Although Roby didn't score in this match, his form was indeed encouraging.

Yesterday Brescia played a friendly match with Vipiteno, and they won by 10-0. In the first half coach Mazzone used 3-4-1-2 formation, with Roby behind Toni and Tare. Roby and Toni both scored three goals, and Tare scored twice. Roby's first goal was from a freekick, his second was assisted by Toni, and his third was from a penalty kick. Although it was only a friendly match, the good understanding between Roby and Toni was really encouraging.

24TH JULY 2001

Roby returned to Italy from the United States in Sunday evening, and yesterday morning he immediately joined the team at Vipiteno for training. And because eight players were called to play for the Intertoto semi-final, only a small group of players were training yesterday. Before the training began, Roby did an interview with journalists.

As reported in BresciaOggi, Roby firstly said "it is indeed a small group here, this is my 20th season, I have never work in such a small group for preparation before. It's alright, actually it will be interesting."

Then about himself, Roby said "I feel good. During my vacation (in Argentina) and my travel to the foreign country (U.S.), I trained for two weeks non-stop."

About Brescia advance to the semi-final of the Intertoto, Roby said "it was the merit of the boys of Menichini. It is not easy to play at the optimal level and to be competitive during this period of the year. [In France or Belgium for Intertoto final on 8th August] would be an extraordinary target. Don't forget that 15 months ago Brescia were in Serie B. I don't know if I will be 100% ready, but if Brescia go through I will be available."

A possible opponent in the Intertoto final would be Paris Saint Germain, about the French team, Roby said "I remember the goal I scored from a freekick at the Delle Alpi Stadium during the season that I won the UEFA Cup with Juventus. It would be nice to play against the team of Anelka."

Then Roby was asked if his goal at the Delle Alpi Stadium changed Brescia's season, and he answered "yes. After that draw game on Juve's home ground, we faced Reggina and Verona calmly, and thanks to these two victories, we were able to end the championship with success."

About the coming season and the World Cup, Roby said "for me, it is an important year, it is my last chance to participate in the World Cup, I will try not to make mistake, in order to play well for Brescia and for myself."

Then he was asked if Brescia would be in the final chapter of his coming autobiography, and Roby replied "surely it will be the last one. I will end my career with Brescia's jersey. My experience with Brescia is already positive, but I want to obtain something more. I have a good feeling with the people here, and I feel the fortune of being able to train with a man like Mazzone, he has been able to unite the team during the difficult moments. Brescia is a choice that I am happy with."

Finally about youngster Guana, Roby said "I remember once in an airplane, Guana approached to me and asked if I thought he would be able to become a good soccer player, and my answer was 'yes, sure, you have the dowry to succeed, but all depends on the head.' He has the spirit and mentality of a champion, Guana is an intelligent boy, he can do it."

On the other hand, as reported in Giornale di Brescia, coach Mazzone talked about Roby, he said "I can see him in great condition. I'm waiting for a great season to come. If I always have a player like him, I would have some more hair."

15TH JULY 2001

Yesterday the 2001/2002 Brescia team gathered together at the Hotel Touring in Coccaglio, and Roby was the first one to arrive.

As reported in Sportal and Giornale di Brescia, Roby had a chat with journalists after talking to coach Mazzone. Firstly about his vacation, Roby said "I had a beautiful vacation with my family, again in Argentina, now I am feeling good."

When asked to talk about the World Cup, Roby replied "now I only think of working with the rest of the squad (Brescia), and to find again the shape that assisted us to achieve an important objective a month ago. I do not intend to make it too high, our objective is still the salvation."

Then about the Brescia now, Roby said "some important players like Dario (Hubner), Bisoli and Filippo Galli have left, to whom I would like to give a special thanks, it is always sad to see the departure of players who have worked well with you during the year."

About Hubner leaving with bitter, Roby said "I have never declared that there is incompatibility with Dario, and to tell the truth, I do not know where did this thing come from. Also I have never expressed preferences on Tares or others."

Then about his new teammates, Roby said "I still do not know him (Toni) personally, but from his look I see a great quality player, good in holding the ball and header. Also Giunti is a good purchase, he is able to balance the team, and he is from a great team (A.C. Milan)."

About Vicenza's demotion, Roby said "it is a part of the game and people understand this." And about Fiorentina, Roby said "no comment."

Finally, when asked whether he would be a second choice to Totti if they were both chosen to participate in World Cup 2002, Roby said "at the moment I do not want to think about these things, the coach will have the time to complete his choices. I only want to concentrate on Brescia, to play for the squad, the supporters, and for myself."

Today Brescia will travel to Vipiteno for a three-week training session, while Roby will not be with the team for the first week, as he will work with his personal coach Miguel. After that he will join the team in Vipiteno.

On the other hand, Brescia has a new sponsor, this season on the team's jersey, there will be the orange logo of Banca Lombarda, instead of the red Ristora logo last season.

11TH JULY 2001

Toni signed a five-year contract with Brescia on Tuesday, earlier Tare signed a new contract with the team, and Hubner has moved to Piacenza. So, next season Roby's partner will either be Toni or Tare, more likely it will be Toni.

7TH JULY 2001

During his vacation, Roby was interviewed by Pele official site Pele.net. Here is a report of the interview. Firstly, about Romario's comment that players of the current generation is not as talented as the previous generations, Roby said "in my opinion, players today have the same level of talent as always. Here are some players that I believe to be talented: Totti, Del Piero, Vieri, Buffon and Nesta are some, but there are several more."

About which players will be playing in the World Cup 2002, Roby said "all the Italians I mentioned are certainly going to take part, apart from them, Figo and Rui Costa, Rivaldo, Raul, Davids and Beckham also come across my mind. Surprise? I'm waiting to see my friend Ronaldo. He's been suffering very much and he's now recovering from the injury, he is capable of doing magic and entertaining the whole world."

About which team can win the World Cup in Korea and Japan, Roby said "I think France and Argentina. But there are also England, Spain, Holland and, the always surprising and talented Brazil."

About World Cup '94, Roby said "I was disappointed with the missed penalty, it was the last and the important one, but it didn't harm the continuation of my career."

About Trapattoni, Roby said "he is an upper-class trainer. If I'm to talk about Trap, I will never say he's a tactical fundamentalist, he does not enslave himself for projects or formulas."

Then Roby was asked whether he believed that he would have more chances to play in the national team if he was born in a country with more offensive-style of soccer, and he said "probably yes." And about who he would like to play with, Roby said "unfortunately they are not in my generations, but without doubt I will answer with the names of great players, the divine Pele and Zico. Players of my generation will be three phenomena, Van Basten, who I always admire, Romario and Ronaldo, who I was glad to be able to play with in Inter, although only for a few times."

About Romario, Roby said "Romario is one of the greatest players of all time. He has good technique and personality. He is a master of art in the penalty area. He is such a player that, in the coming World Cup, it will not be a surprise if he is even more decisive and threatening than in 1994."

Finally about the latest slump of Brazilian soccer, Roby said "Brazilian soccer is going through a difficult moment, but it is not appropriate to say it is a long term crisis. All the countries in the world face similar crisis from time to time. What I know is the following: during important competitions, when you take on Brazil in quarter final, semi-final or final, you always have to estimate well and be careful. Moreover, at least for me, Brazil is soccer. As they get pass this difficult moment, the delicate Brazilian school will continues to be at a supreme and unattainable level."

On the other hand, as reported in Giornale di Brescia, when Spanish star Raul was asked about Brescia, his reaction was immediate: "Roberto Baggio... You have a great champion to watch all Sundays." Raul seemed to enjoy talking about Roby, he then asked "how many goals have Roberto scored exactly? I know that he was once injuried, before playing the big games and helping the squad. I saw his goal against Juve on television, one magic. In Spain they showed it a number of times in sport programs. He has made a good decision to go to a small squad in order to have more playing time, if I'm at his age and no big clubs want me, I will make the same choice."

As reported in Sportal, Brescia is close to signing Toni after president Corioni had a meeting with the president of Vicenza on Friday, during which they had reached an agreement. Although the deal is not yet finalized, it is expected to become official by Monday.

4TH JULY 2001

As reported in Giornale di Brescia, Vicenza forward Toni expressed his desire to join Brescia, he said "I know there are three teams that are trying on me, but I already have a precise idea in my mind of going to Brescia. I do not know Mazzone personally, but I heard from others that he is good and I would like to work with him. Moreover, there is Roberto Baggio, to play alongside him is the dream of every forward." Because Toni still has a contract with Vicenza, the club may decide which team to let Toni go to, a decision is expected soon.
